A month ago you were UCLA students. Then came the cages in a pawnshop basement, someone else’s blood in your throat, and the hum of a jeweler’s kiln behind the wall. Three nights ago you escaped.
Now a gamekeeper walks the campus with his dogs, your sixth is still in a cage, and the kiln will reach temperature by dawn. In a single night four powers of the city will come looking for you, and each will offer you a new life at its own price: a baron, a cult, a preacher, and a community of your own kind. Many doors. One night.
